PHNOM PENH (21 August 2010) – Phnom Penh Crown won the Metfone Cambodia League 2010 when they edged out Preah Khan Reach FC 4-3 in a pulsating final match that was played at the National Olympic Stadium.
But it was Preah Khan who drew first blood in the game that was attended by close to 10,000 fans when Khuon Laboravy nailed the lead in the seventh minute before Phnom Penh Crown fought back with the equaliser ten minutes later through Keo Songan. Tum Saray then restored the lead for Preah Khan in the 33rd minute as they took a 2-1 advantage at the half. But just eight minutes after the restart, Srey Veasna nailed the equaliser for Phnom Penh before Hong Makara (81st minute) and then Keo Songan (88th minute) scored two further goals to put the score at 4-2 to Phnom Penh’s advantage. And while substitute Sam El Nasa did pull a goal back in injury time, it was just a tad too late to change the final scoreline. In the meantime, 2009 champions Naga Corp FC finished fourth in the play-offs when they were beaten 5-3 in the penalty shootout. The score at the end of regulation was 2-2. |
