PHNOM PENH (12 Sept 2009) – As expected, Phnom Penh Crown ended the preliminary round of the Cambodia Premier League (CPL) 2009 at the top of the standings with a six-point advantage over second placed Preah Khan Reach FC.
A 6-3 thrashing of Spark FC in their final game of the preliminary round was just what they expected as they head into the ranking matches later this week alongside Preah Khan Reach, third-placed Khemara Keila FC and fourth-placed Naga Corp FC. But it was not all easy street in the match against Spark when Phnom Penh’s early 26th minute strike from A. T. Ayoyinka was erased by J. Uch Prince in the 41st minute. Uch Prince then grabbed a hat-trick in the encounter with goals in the 61st and 72nd minute to put Spark 3-1 in front. But Phnom Penh proved their worth of being table-topper when O. Mohamadou blasted in their second goal on 75th minute before Chan Rithy then drew level with the equaliser two minutes later. Ayoyinka (85th minute) and Mohamadou (89th and 90th) then scored the other goals for the final scoreline. In the play-offs between the top four ranked teams, Phnom Penh Crown FC will take on Naga Corp FC while Preah Khan Reach FC will square off against Khemara Keila FC. |
