PHNOM PENH (22 June 2009) – Following their disappointment in the recent AFC President’s Cup, Phnom Penh Crown got back to their winning ways in the Cambodia Premier League this week when they edged Phouchung Neak FC 2-1 at the National Olympic Stadium.
Despite the gallant effort of Heng Sokly for Phouchung’s only goal in the 45th minute, there was no denying Phnom Penh Crown the full points as they scored a goal in each half – Chan Chhaya ( 30th minute) and Keo Sok Gnan (53rd) – for the win. With the victory, Phnom Penh Crown are now sixth at the standings with 10 points – six points adrift of leaders Preah Khan Reach FC but with a game still in hand. In the meantime, Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC’s hope of closing in on the leaders fell a little short when they were held to a 2-2 draw by National Defense Ministry FC. It would seem that Um Komphiak was the toast for National Defense Ministry where not only did he give them the lead in the 11th minute but also his goal deep in injury time denied Kirivong the full points. In between, O. Eromoselle and J. Chukwumeka scored a goal each for Kirivong in the 13th and 73rd minute respectively for them to remain on second at the table.
