MANILA (25 March 2013) – The Philippines national team piled on the misery on Cambodia when they lambasted the latter 8-0 in the second matchday of the AFC Challenge Cup Group E qualifiers that was played last night at the Rizal Memorial National Stadium.
With Turkmenistan having whitewashed Cambodia 7-0 in their first game, the Philippines needed the goals to ensure that they have a fighting chance for a place in the next round.
And score they did as striker Phil Younghusband opened up a cagey Cambodia defence to score four goals in the 25th, 31st, 35th and 86th minute.
The remainder of the goals came from Javier Patino (45th and 58th minute) and Stephan Shrock in the 47th minute and then Carli de Murga in the 88th minute. The only down side to Philippines’ performance on the night was the red card on Paul Mulders six minutes to the end.
The Philippines will play Turkmenistan tomorrow in the decisive match in the group.
