MANILA (27 April 2014) – Malaysian striker Safee Sali’s penalty miss right at the end allowed the Philippines to escape with a scoreless draw in a friendly that was played at the Cebu City Sports Centre tonight.
This was the second meeting for the two sides where in the last clash in March in Kuala Lumpur, the end result was also a deadlock.
Both teams had their fair share of possessions but neither had the tenacity to have one real good crack at goal up until three minutes to the end when Philippines captain Anton Del Rosario was faulted for a handball inside the box.
In the ensuing penalty, Safee’s meek attempt at beating Philippines keeper Patrick Deyto was easily saved by the latter as Philippines and Malaysia settled for another drawn tie.
