MANILA (5 oct 2011) – The Philippines national team finished second in the Long Teng Cup, chalking up two draws and scoring their only win in the competition with a 2-0 victory over Macau in the final round robin game in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei.
The Azkals had opened up their campaign this year with a 3-3 against Hong Kong before holding hosts Chinese Taipei to a scoreless stalemate for their second point.
“The several Under-23 players all showed that at this level they can do something. It’s a good sign for the SEA Games,” said skipper Aly borromeo afterwards.
Against Macau, two goals from Emilio ‘Chiffy’ Caligdong were enough for them to emerge second in the meet.
The Philippines next test will be against Singapore at the Jalan Besar Stadium in two days.
