MANILA (21 Jan 2011) – The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) have reached an agreement with Asia Brewery to stage the First Manila Beer Cup in late 2011. The competition will see three Under-23 teams from ASEAN other than the hosts challenging for honours in a round robin competition format.
Mariano Araneta, the president of the PFF said that he had a discussion with Hubert Tan – Asia Brewery’s vice president for sales – this week and they agreed to stage the tournament sometime in October at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
Asia Brewery had donated P250,000 (USD5,600) to the Azkals’ campaign at the last AFF Suzuki Cup when they reached the semi-finals in Indonesia.
“We might invite teams from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia to join in the four-nation competition,” said Araneta.
Araneta added that he will be extending the invitation to the countries’ respective officials at the next AFF Council meeting.
