MANILA (19 Nov 2013) – AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa announced that the continental body’s 60th anniversary celebrations will take place in Manila next year.
“The AFC was founded in Manila 60 years ago on May 8, 1954, and it is therefore appropriate to return to the organisations’ roots while celebrating the 60th anniversary. The AFC Annual Awards in November next year will provide the perfect platform for the celebrations,” said Shaikh Salman.
“Around 500 dignitaries from around the globe will attend this historic event and several AFC Standing Committees will meet on the sidelines of the function. AFC have appointed PFF President Mariano Araneta as the Chairman of the anniversary celebrations committee and I am happy with the preparations so far.”
Describing the role of the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) in the celebrations, PFF President Mariano Araneta said: “I am the chairman of the organising committee and there are supporting committees to take care of the event.”
“I would like to thank the AFC President for his help and support in the development of football in the Philippines.”
The AFC President said the venue and date of the AFC Annual Awards will be announced by the end of this year.
