MANILA (2 Sept 2014) – From a round robin tournament, the Peace Cup this year has been re-formatted to accommodate the directive from FIFA that national teams should only play two matches during international match calendar.
As such, the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) had little choice but to re-draw the championship at the Rizal Memorial Stadium into do-or-die matches.
“Due to FIFA Advisory received on 28 August 2014, all participating teams are expected to comply with the new regulations on two-match per international window,” the PFF said in a statement.
“PFF has thus revised the competition format to allot a maximum of two matches per representative team during the period of 01-09 September 2014.”
The Peace Cup was initially supposed to be a round-robin tournament with the team having the most number of points after three games emerging as champion.
