JAKARTA (24 Dec 2018) – Persija Jakarta picked up their 11th Indonesian League title when they won the Liga 1 crown this week – a point ahead of second-placed PSM Makassar.
It was Persija’s first title in seventeen years while for PSM, it was another heartbreak as they finished as runners-up for the second time in two years.
Persija’s close 2-1 win over Mitra Kukar gave the city side the edge following goals from Marko Simic’s penalty in the 19th minute and then a header in the 59th minute.
Mitra Kukar’s only goal came off Aldino not too long afterwards.
“It has been a very difficult year as we struggled to find a home base and our own stadium. But the players showed a lot of character as we had to play most of our matches outside of Jakarta,” said captain Ismed Sofyan.
