PERSEBAYA TO CHANGE FAN CLUB NAME

The name change was initiated in a bid to change the image of the fan club from one which was known as a bunch of hooligans to that of passionate supporters of the club.

Acting Persebaya chairman Cholid Goromah said the change in name was to distant the club and their fans from the latter’s penchant for violence and hooliganism – following the recent arrest of 19 ‘bonek’ during a riot in Surakarta, Central Java.

“We’ll invite PSSI (Indonesia FA) president Nurdin Halid, disciplinary commissioner Hinca Panjaitan, ISL CEO Joko Driyono, Surabaya Mayor Bambang D.H. and the military top brass in East Java to the launch,” Cholid said.

Persebaya also plan to reorganize the entire management of the fans, including the issuance of membership ID among others.
