JAKARTA (11 March 2010) – Pelita Jaya are mired at the bottom of the Indonesia Super League (ISL) following their latest 2-0 loss at home to Persija Jakarta – their fourth defeat in a row.
The team which is being handled by former Singapore international Fandi Ahmad have collected a measly 17 points from 22 league matches. With 12 matches left to the end of the ISL season, Pelita will have to garner at least eight points to lift themselves out of the relegation battle. Following the deadlock in the first half, former Pelita star Firman Utina unleashed a stinger in the 55th minute to give the visitors the lead before Serge Emalue Ngomgoue nailed the second goal of the afternoon ten minutes later. The win has allowed Persija Jakarta – also known as Kemayoran Tigers – to move up to fourth in the ISL with 35 points. Arema Malang lead the table with 48 points although Persija have a game in hand. Elsewhere in the ISL, Persela Lamongan drew 0-0 at home against PSM Makassar as PSPS Pekanbaru routed Persiwa Wamena 5-0. |
