PETALING JAYA (15 Sept 2009) – The Australian national Under-16 team will be finalising their squad this week as they gear up for the AFF Women’s Championship which will be held in Myanmar next month.
The Australians who had already started their preparation last month moved into the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra as part of their training regime. Robert Hooker, who is handling the squad of 30 players, believes that he has a group of talented teenagers able to carry the challenge for Australia. “The squad has been progressing well and are coming together more cohesively as a group,” said Hooker. “This continues our build up to the AFF Championship in October and then AFC tournament in November. “The AFC Championships in November is also the qualifying tournament for the Under-17 World Cup so the development of this group of players has to be a continuous effort. “This will act as the final selection process before we finalise the squad for these next two tournaments.” |
