HANOI (25 June 2012) – An own goal from Mozambique’s Manuel in the second half saved 2008 ASEAN champions Vietnam the blushes in a friendly that was played at the My Dinh National Stadium.
Playing in front of their home fans was scant motivation for Vietnam as they failed to make good on the several chances they have created. Striker Trong Hoang, veteran Le Cong Vinh as well as Thanh Luong were all at fault in the opening half.
And for Vietnam, they were actually lucky to escape unscathed in the match when Mozambique had a goal disallowed following a corner. The score at the break was 0-0.
But several changes into the second half gave more pace to Vietnam and after some sustained pressure saw Manuel putting the goal into his own net in the 63rd minute as Mozambique were forced to play catch up from then on.
