PHNOM PENH (June 30, 2007) – Moha Garuda FC began their campaign in the Cambodian Second League on a thumping note when they thrashed Eastern Eagle FC 5-3 in Kampong Cham Province.
Despite being a goal down as early as the fourth minute when Kung Moeun Vichit opened account for Eastern Eagle, Moha Garuda did not lose shape for Phin Peara to nail the equaliser seven minutes later. However Eastern Eagle was quick on the draw to open up a 3-2 lead at the break when Som Chanravuth and Va Botra scored in the 19th and 20th minute respectively before Moha Garuda pulled a goal back from Keo Sok Ngan in the 41st minute. The frantic start in the first half failed to materialise after the break for Eastern Eagle when they simply sat back to allow Moha Garuda to roam the field. And Moha Garuda certainly did not need a second invitation as Chea Kolbot nailed his first hat-trick of the competition with goals in the 55th, 72nd and 75th minute for the final scoreline. In another match at the same venue, Navy FC certainly left it late before being able to score a close 3-2 win over Phnom Pros FC. With the score level during the break – following goals from Seng Kosen in the 21st minute for Navy and Hang Sopheak in the 36th minute – the second half saw both teams not pulling any chances. At the hour mark, the score stood 2-2 after Heng Sok Ly’s 51st minute strike was cancelled out by Heng Phearum in the 65th minute. But just when things seem to be heading for a deadlock, Sok Ly was on hand to deliver the winner deep in injury time for Navy FC to score their first three points of the competition. AT THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL CENTRE, Spark FC scored a 3-2 win over Koh Kong FC while Kandal FC held Royal Sword FC to a 1-1 draw. Koh Kong FC’s goals were scored by Methhan Chan Davuth (42nd) and Kao Sava (87th) while Spark FC replied through Ry Vireak (19th), Lim Pros (71st) and Phoeun Rasmey (90th). On the other hand, Royal Sword FC’s early strike from Nuth Sinuon in the 20th minute failed to give them their first three points in the league when Kandal FC staged a fight back for Prak Chantha to score a 72nd minute equaliser for both teams to share the one point.
