JAKARTA (2 June 2014) – Agus Rahman, the PSAP Sigli goalkeeper who had inadvertently caused the death of Persiraja Banda Aceh striker Akli Fairuz last month, has been given a year’s ban by the FA of Indonesian (PSSI) Disciplinary Committee.
Agus had been involved in a clash against Akli in an Indonesian Premier League tie which resulted in a kick in the gut for the latter. This resulted in Akli to suffer internal injuries following a burst bladder which he later died from.
“There were six steps which he (Agus) took when he chased after the ball. He raised his legs up to the midriff at a time when the assistant referee had already blown the whistle for off side. Which means that the accident should not have taken place,” said Hinca Pandjaitan, the chairman of the PSSI Disciplinary Committee.
“He (Agus) should not have raised his legs so high when the ball is already on the ground. That is already a technical foul.”
The ban forbids Agus to be involved in any football activities for the next year.
