PETALING JAYA (13 March 2014) – The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have shortlisted the likes of former Leeds United coach David O’Leary and also former Thailand boss Peter Reid as among those to be considered for the Malaysian top job.
Other than duo, the FAM have also announced former PSMS Medan coach Fabio Lopez, Zdenak Zeman (formerly with AS Roma), Marcel Desailly (former French international) and Bob Houghton (formerly with China and India) as being the other candidates.
“We have received a lot of applications, there is no need to keep that a secret,” said Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, the vice president of the FAM, who is also the chairman of the National Coach Selection Committee.
“There were several big names for sure, with the latest being David O’Leary. We have yet to meet O’Leary (pix), so we will have to meet up with him and see what he can offer.”
The FAM are in search of a new coach following the departure of Datuk K. Rajagobal at the end of last year. The national side is currently being handled by Datuk Ong Kim Swee on an interim basis.
