JAKARTA (20 March 2010) – Nurdin Haled, the president of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) has extended his sincere apology to the people of Indonesia following the association’s failure to be part of a serious bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In a letter which was addressed to PSSI, the world governing body for football stated that the reason why Indonesia will not be allowed to continue with the World Cup bid was due to the fact that they did not have the support of the Indonesian government. It would seem that FIFA based their decision on the letter they received earlier in February from the Indonesian government saying that they will not be supporting an official bid for the World Cup from Indonesia. The focus of the Indonesian government at this point in time is on development and expanding the national economy – and not yet on the World Cup 2022. “It was a grand idea from a big nation and of course we are all disappointed by the decision from FIFA,“ said Nurdin. “But as a big nation, we should take the decision with an open mind and the right spirit so that it will not deter our aspiration to raise the level of Indonesian football,” said Nurdin (pix). “On behalf of the PSSI, the Bidding Committee and I would like to extend our apologies to the people of Indonesia following our exit from the bidding process for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.“ |
