BANGKOK (Jan 29, 2007) – Vietnam will not be seeing the last of the oft-tousled look of Thailand’s Datsakorn Thonglao even though they are out of the semi-finals of the Asean Football Championship.
The unpredictable Datsakorn single-handedly destroyed Vietnam in the first leg of their semi-final tie in Hanoi last week where apart from his strong presence in midfield, his fabulously-taken free kick gave the Thais their first goal. And even though Datsakorn was a shade off colour at the Suphachalasai Stadium for the return tie last night in Bangkok, his darting runs were enough to deter Vietnam in staging a revival as both teams fought to a 0-0 draw. The draw was enough for Thailand to make the final of the championship where they will face defending champion Singapore in a few days. But even though Datsakorn denied Vietnam the chance to play in the final of the Asean Football Championship this year, they will however have to welcome him with open arms following his recent transfer to play in Vietnam’s V-League. Datsakorn was reported to be making the shift from his BEC Tero club to Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) for a record sum of USD 83,300. It was reported by the official Thai FA website that Datsakorn, who will earn a third of the transfer fee with the remainder going to BEC Tero, is quite happy with his signing with one of the more successful club in Vietnam. The monthly salary for Datsakorn would be USD 5,500 a month. The transfer is the biggest fee ever paid for a player to play in Vietnam’s professional V-League where previously, the record was held by Antonio Carlos from Brazil. Antonio was transferred by Dong Tam Long An to First Division side Ninh Binh for USD70,000. |
