BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (2 March 2016) – THE National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) have received due recognition from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) when they were awarded with the Grassroots Award for Aspiring Member Association during the first AFC Grassroots Conference in Kuala Lumpur this week.
Representing NFABD was their president HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah.
The national football body won the award during the AFC Annual Awards in New Delhi, India, on Nov 29, and received the award yesterday.
With HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah placing great emphasis on the development of grassroots football, the association has organised numerous grassroots programmes over the past two years.
NFABD celebrated the AFC Grassroots Day on May 17 last year with over 240 children aged between six to 12-years-old taking part in the one-day event at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
The AFC Grassroots Day, which is celebrated across Asia, advocates that grassroots football forms the foundation for success at all levels of football.
NFABD has also organised the Grassroots Football Month in 2014 and 2013, a nation-wide football coaching programme which was a resounding success in all four districts.
