KUALA LUMPUR (8 Jan 2012) – Negeri Sembilan lifted the 2012 Malaysian season opening Charity Shield when they beat Kelantan 2-1 last night in the match that was played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
With the win, the Malaysia Cup 2011 champions delivered the warning to Kelantan that their hopes of winning all four domestic titles at stake this year will not be easy.
Cameroonian striker Jean Emmanuel Effa Owona emerged as the hero for Negeri with a brace off goals in the 31st and 63rd minute, to erase Kelantan’s earlier goal off Norshahrul Idlan Talaha in the 22nd minute.
The Charity Shield win for Negeri Sembilan was their first since 1985.
