SINGAPORE (21 June 2017) – The FA of Singapore (FAS) have announced that The New Paper will continue their title sponsorship of the League Cup for the third year running at the draw to decide the groups for the tournament.
FAS Vice President Mr Razali Saad, who was present at the draw, said: “We are grateful for the support that The New Paper has shown towards the League Cup tournament since 2015. The renewal of their sponsorship this year reinforces their commitment and support of local football.
“The League Cup presents participating clubs and coaches the opportunity to showcase their young talents and I am looking forward to the exciting matches put up by the various teams this year.”
Editor of The New Paper, Mr Eugene Wee added: “As an ardent supporter of the local game, The New Paper is honoured to be the title sponsor of the League Cup for a third consecutive year.
“Two-time defending champion Albirex Niigata is the team to beat, but I’m sure the other teams will raise their game in their bid to get their hands on the prestigious trophy.
“We are confident the fans will be treated to another football spectacle in this year’s tournament.”
Eight participating S.League teams have been divided into two groups of four to compete in the group stage, with the top two teams of each group qualifying for the League Cup semi-finals.
The group stage is scheduled to take place from 7 – 14 July 2017, while the semi-finals and final are slated to take place on Tuesday 18 July 2017 and Friday 21 July 2017 respectively. Details of the fixtures will be released at a later date.
