HANOI (6 March 2015) – Setting aside potentials and recommendations, newly appointed Vietnam national women’s team coach Norimatsu Takashi said that the National Championship will be the best vetting ground as he looks to develop a strong squad.
The 46-year-old Japanese inked a two-year deal with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) this week with the AFF Women’s Championship in May as the first assignment.
“I will have to check players’ skills (during the National Championship) first and then work out a detailed playing style and tactics,” said Takashi.
“I have watched some matches of the team and was impressed with what they did. I also heard that Vietnam has a team with great potential and I want to convert it to having real power. I want them to be among Asia’s leading teams.”
The appointment of Takashi is part of the MoU that was signed between the VFF and Japan Football Association (JFA).
“His main duty will be to strengthen the team, advice and support the VFF to organise a better national tournament, as well as train younger players,” said VFF Chairman Le Hung Dung.
After his playing days, Takashi worked with youth teams from Gamba Osaka, Vissel Kobe, Tokushima Vortis and Tucano. He is currently the director of the Ryukyu Academy in Japan.
