JAKARTA (8 May 2014) – Nandya Kyaw scored late in injury time to give the Myanmar Under-19 team a well-deserved 2-1 win over their Indonesian counterparts in the second friendly that was played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
The two sides had earlier battled to a 1-1 draw two days earlier at the same venue.
And while Indonesia grabbed the lead late in the first half when Putu Gede headed in the freekick from Ilham Udin in the 45th minute, the loss of midfielder Ichsan Kurniawan would turn the game against the home team.
But as Myanmar continued to pressure the Indonesian backline, their frustration soon began to show and in the 65th minute, they were playing with ten men when Nan Wai Lin was red carded for a harsh tackle on Ilham Udin.
With both teams on equal terms, the lackadaisical defending in the closing stages of the game would cost Indonesia dearly when Aung Thu fired in an 88th minute equalizer to beat Awan Setho.
And barely a few minutes later, Indonesian defender Ryuji Utomo was faulted for a foul on Aung Thu inside the box, which Nanda Kyaw had little trouble in putting it away.
“I don’t blame anyone for the loss. The referee was fair. We played well generally throughout the tie,” said Indonesian coach Indra Sjafri.
