HANOI (30 May 2009) – The Vietnam national Under-15 champions Nam Dinh will fly to Tokyo tomorrow to take part in a football tournament from 1-8 June.
Apart from Vietnam, the other competing teams are Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar with the host using the meet as part of activities to mark the Mekong-Japan Exchange Year 2009. Vietnam is scheduled to play against Japan and Laos on 3 June. They will then take on Thailand on 4 June and then Cambodia on 5 June. After the event, players from Vietnam and the other five countries will make a tour of Tokyo, watch a Yamazaki Nabisco Cup match, pay a courtesy visit to leaders of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and join a cultural exchange with Japanese players. The tournament is held within the framework of an exchange programme between East Asian youths in the 21st century initiated by former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to promote mutual understanding and friendship between future generations of Southeast Asian and East Asian countries. |
