PHNOM PENH (19 May 2014) – Naga Corp FC’s title hope suffered a dent on the weekend when they fell to an unexpected 2-1 loss to the Ministry of National Defence as Phnom Penh Crown FC jumped to the top of the standings of the Metfone C-League 2014.
Pum Tola’s blistering freekick in the 32nd minute was followed by a second goal from Phoung Soksana just before the hour as National Defense comfortable in the driver’s seat.
And while Naga did pull a goal back four minutes to the end from Japanese import Masahiro Fukusawa, it was not enough to inject a revival.
With the loss, Naga Corp moved down to second at the table as Phnom Penh moved to lead the standings following their 9-1 thrashing of Asia Europe University.
The goals for Phnom Penh were scored by George Bisan (4 goals), Adrian Pellegrino (2 goals), Odion Obadin, Hong Pheng and Thourng Da.
Elsewhere, defending champions Svay Rieng blasted Western University 5-0 at the Old Stadium, Boeung Ket Rubber Field edging Albirex Niigata 2-1 as National Police Commissary were also big winners with a 5-0 thumping of Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.
Build Bright United edged TriAsia 1-0.
