PHNOM PENH (8 August 2010) – Going into the Metfone Cambodia League 2010 play-offs in a week, defending champions Naga Corp FC put up a show in their final league match when they entertained the crowd with a 9-4 thriller against basement side Wat Phnom FC at the National Olympic Stadium.
Naga Corp, who were in no danger of losing their top spot at the table even if they should lose this tie, were a little more relaxed than usual as they took a more leisurely pace for Tiep Vathanak to score twice in the 12th and 18th minute. Chin Chum then added two more goals for Naga in the 25th and 41st minute before Phlong Chantou scored a double of his own for Wat Phnom in the 35th and 45th minute for the score to stand at 4-2 to Naga‘s advantage at the break. Phlong then completed his hat-trick with the third goal for Wat Phnom in the 63rd minute before Naga turned on the power for Tiep to nail three more goals (68th, 73rd and 81st minute) to complete his five-goal haul and also another from Sun Sovanrithy (69th) and Chin Chum (77th) to complete the rout. Wat Phnom’s fourth goal in the game came off Ry Phearouen in the 79th minute of play. In the meantime, already qualified Phnon Penh Crown FC completed their fixtures with a 3-1 loss to Preah Khan Reach FC. Following a first-half deadlock, Preah Khan grabbed the lead off Khuon Laboravy just two minutes after the restart before Chea Samnang nailed the second goal in the 51st minute to give them the 2-0 lead. Phnom Penh fought back through Keo Sok Ngan five minutes later as Preah Khan then put the game beyond contention with their third goal of the game from Sam El Nasa in the 72nd minute. With the loss, Phnom Penh Crown finished the league season on fourth at the table and where they will have to face Naga Corp in the play-offs next week.
