PHNOM PENH (Nov 18, 2007) – Cambodian Premier League leaders Naga Corp FC inched closer to their first domestic crown with a spectacular 5-1 win over Lion Squad FC at the National Olympic Stadium.
With nearest challenger Khemara Keila FC scoring a 4-1 win over the Cambodian Armed Forces FC, it did little to change things at the top of the standings as the status quo remained for another week with just two matches left to the end of the season. Khemara are on second with 30 points while Phnom Penh Empire are on third with 26 points from the same number of 12 games played. Against Lion Squad, the Naga lads did not have to work too hard to carve out a 2-0 lead at the break with goals off Ngeng Dipita Herve Ernest in the 26th minute and then Kim Chan Bunrith in the 33rd minute. Four minutes after the restart, Teap Vathanak was on target before Pich Seyha nailed a brace in the 75th and 79th minute. Khemara on the other hand, were not about to lose their composure either as they kept up the pace with Naga to collect the full points against the Cambodian Armed Forces FC to maintain their position on second. The score at the break was 3-0 in favour of Khemara with goals off Ung Kan Yanith in the 14th minute, Kuoch Sokomphiak in the 22nd minute and then Abosede Olabode Paul with two minutes remaining to the break. Khim Borey pulled a goal back for Cambodian Armed Forces FC in the 70th minute before Khemara made sure that the game was beyond contention with a strike off Srey Veasna seven minutes to the end.
