PHNOM PENH (Nov 14, 2007) – Buoyed by their win the previous week over close rival Phnom Penh Empire, league leaders Naga Corp FC made another sweet victory in the Cambodian Premier League when they thumped Build Bright University 6-0 at the National Olympic Stadium.
After taking a slim 1-0 lead at the break through Teap Vathanak’s only strike in the 37th minute, Naga shifted into a higher gear in the second half for Tong Sotho to slam home in the 59th minute as well as Chin Chum’s 62nd minute effort for them to be 3-0 in front at the hour mark. Naga then added further goals off Dnjana Pierre (64th minute), Sun Sovannarith (79th) and then another from Vathanak (82nd) for the final scoreline. With the three points, Naga maintained their position at the top of the table with just a two-point advantage over second-placed Khemara Keila FC and three points over Phnom Empire. However, both Naga and Khemara have only played 11 games in the CPL as compared to Phnom Penh’s 12 matches thus far. In the meantime, former league leaders Khemara kept up the pressure on Naga Corp with a resounding 9-0 win over basement side Baksey Chamkrong FC. Kuoch Sokomphiak nailed five goals (8th, 37th, 50th, 64th and 66th minute) in the one-sided affair while Srey Veasna contributed two goals in the 47th and 48th minute. The other goals in the game were scored by Muon Sophiak who conceded an own goal in the 32nd minute, Thul Sotheary in the 42nd minute and Keo Kosal in the 77th minute.
