YANGON (29 Jan 2016) – Roger Reijners has been picked as the new national coach of the Myanmar women’s football team by the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) this week.
Reijners was responsible for bringing the the Netherlands women’s football team to their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2015.
The MFF stated that their appointment of a world-class coach was driven by the need to put up a strong team for the AFF Women’s Football Championship which they will host in June.
“The MFF have made a call to him as we need (a world-class coach),” said team manager Aye Maung Gyi.
“Our team is well settled and there is a good relationship between coaching staff and players. Such relationships are crucial in football but we welcome anyone who can help improve our team.”
The 51-year-old Reijners, played in Eredivise (Dutch First Division) throughout his career, first for Fortuna Sittard before moving to MVV.
Early in his professional career he also gathered four U21 caps in the orange of Netherlands.
After retiring from the playing ranks he joined MVV coaching, eventually becoming manager of the Maastricht side from 2000 to 2003.
He then returned to Fortuna Sittard as manager between 2007 and 2010 when he joined the Netherlands women’s side.
