YANGON (1 June 2010) – The South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) have announced that Myanmar will hosts the SEA Games in 2013.
The announcement was made following SEAGF meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia as they discussed matters regarding the 2011 Jakarta SEA Games. Initially, the hosting of the 2013 SEA Games was supposed to go to Singapore but they turned it down since the island republic will be hosting the Youth Olympic Games this year. It is believed that Myanmar are planning to organize 27 sports for the biennial meet. Myanmar first hosted the SEA Games in 1961 when the country was known as Burma . They organized the Games again in 1969 before formally changing their name to Myanmar in 1989. It seems that the SEAGF Council decided to give Myanmar their backing and other smaller countries like East Timor and Cambodia the chance to organize the event. |
