YANGON (11 Feb 2015) – ASEAN’s sole representatives at this year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup Myanmar have been drawn in Group A of the meet against hosts New Zealand, Ukraine and the United States.
Myanmar, alongside Qatar, DPR Korea and Uzbekistan, qualified for the tournament proper after finishing in the top four in the AFC U19 Championship 2014.
AFC U20 winners Qatar, who will be making a return to the FIFA U20 World Cup after a 24-year absence, being drawn in Group C alongside Colombia, Portugal and Africa’s fourth-placed qualifying side which has still to be decided.
DPR Korea, beaten 1-0 by Qatar in the AFC U-19 Championship final, find themselves in Group E for their second FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign with global powerhouse Brazil, Africa’s yet to be confirmed champions and Hungary.
Meanwhile Uzbekistan, who will be making their fourth FIFA U-20 World Cup appearance are in Group F where they are scheduled to lock horns with Germany, Fiji and Honduras – their opening opponents.
