YANGON (March 16, 2007) – Myanmar will be relying on several new young players when they take part in the Asean Futsal Championship 2007 slated for March 26-31 in Bangkok.
For the tournament, which will be held at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium, the Myanmar side will take only four players who played at the last edition in 2006 while the majority will be new players to shoulder their challenge. At the last edition, the Myanmar Futsal team did not fare as well as they had expected, where even though they managed to thrash Brunei 7-2 in their first game, they lost to eventual champion Thailand 22-3 in the group. They then went on to lose 5-3 to Indonesia in the semi-final before securing the third spot in the championship by beating Cambodia 10-2 in the classification match. For this year’s meet, Myanmar has been placed in Group B of the championship alongside Vietnam, Thailand and Brunei. In Group A are Malaysia, Australia, Philippines and Indonesia. Myanmar will open their campaign against Brunei in the second match of the afternoon on March 26. |
