YANGON (14 April 2009) – The Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) are looking at increasing their overall budget so as to be more competitive at the international level.
Myanmar, who failed to make the cut into the semi-finals of the recent AFF Suzuki Cup 2008, will be looking at considerably increasing their current budget of USD 500,000 annually. Under the guidance of president U Zaw Zaw, the MFF have broadened their appeal with the recent launching of the Myanmar Premier League. The cost of running the league is around USD 6 million a year – the first professional football league in Myanmar with eight clubs which was initiated by a group of businessmen. Other source of funding includes the USD 250,000 the MFF receive from football international body FIFA as the annual grant. |
