BANGKOK (21 Oct 2009) – Muang Thong United emerged as the new Thai champions when they beat BEC Tero Sasana 2-0 in the final match day of the Thai Premier League 2009.
International striker Teerasil Dangda was on target in the 25th minute before Wisarut Phannasri then added the second goal eight minutes to the end. With the win, Muang Thong will be eligible to take part in the play-offs for a place in next year’s AFC Champions League. For BEC Tero, they can still salvaged some pride for the season when they take on Thai Port in the FA Cup final on Friday. In the meantime Chonburi, who were knocked out of this year’s AFC Cup at the quarter-final stage by Vietnam club Binh Duong, beat Thai Port in their final game of the season 2-1 to finish second at the table. In the other final matches of the season, Bangkok Glass hammered relegated side Nakhon Pathom 5-2, Chula going down 2-1 to Pattaya United while Sri Racha scored a 3-1 win over Osostpa M150. Bangkok United drew 1-1 draw against Samut Songkhram as former champions Provincial Electricity Authority ended their disappointment at failing to defend their crown with a 4-1 victory over Navy Rayong to complete the season on tenth. |
