BANGKOK (30 Sept 2011) – Muang Thong United have appointed Robbie Fowler as their caretaker coach for the remainder of the Thai Premier League season.
The defending champions have decided to part ways with Henrique Calisto following their exit in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup this week.
“Robbie will be caretaker coach until the end of the season. If he is successful, we may offer him a long-term contract,” said Ronnarit Suewaja, the general manager of Muang Thong.
“We have to move forward and I am sure that everyone involved will support him. Our target is still the same – we must try to defend the title.”
Muang Thong are currently third in the TPL on 44 points – 12 points behind runaway leaders Buriram PEA but with two games still in hand.
The 36-year-old Fowler, who has had short coaching spells at Milton Keynes Dons and Bury in England’s League One (third division), is the fifth coach of Muang Thong in three years.
