BANGKOK (1 Nov 2010) – Back to back Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United will clash against Chonburi FC in a ‘dream’ FA Cup final at the Supachalasai Stadium on 28 Nov 2010. Muang Thong had to carve out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Navy Rayong with international striker Teerasil Dangda sealing their place with winner on 27 minute from close range. On the other hand Chonburi had it easier with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Army Stadium through Pipob On-mo scoring after sixth minutes and Natthaphong Samana adding another in the 34th minute. In the meantime, Muang Thong United and Spanish side Atletico Madrid have signed a contract to become partners (pix). The deal was signed by Muang Thong deputy chairman Wiluk Lohthong and Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil. The partnership will see the two teams exchange players, play friendly matches and sell each other’s’ merchandise in their stadiums. “The partnership is another important step for our team. We hope that this will help Muang Thong become stronger and ready to become one of the best teams in Asia in the near future,” said Wiluk. Added Gil: “We want to expand our market and Asia is the biggest market. “We will give opportunities to the Thai players and coaches to learn at our football academy. I think this agreement will have sporting, commercial and economic benefits for both teams. I hope it will encourage more Thai fans to follow the Spanish league and more Spanish fans to follow the Thai league” |
