SINGAPORE (15 June 2015) – There’s just 90 minutes separating Thailand from the Mother of All Gold Medals – and coach Choketawee Promrut realized it only too well.
The soft spoken Choketawee who had played professionally across the region is on the brink of super stardom when he leads Thailand into the final of the men’s football event here at the SEA Games in Singapore.
And standing in the way of the Thais as they look to win back to back titles for their 15th football crown in the history of the SEA Games is surprise package Myanmar.
“We still have another 90 minutes to play for and until then, we have not won anything yet,” said Choketawee.
“I know that people are saying that the gold is as good as ours. But I told the players not to get ahead of themselves. Any team which can make the final of the SEA Games must have certain quality.
“And Myanmar have shown that they can play good attacking football. They work well together and they never give up. So we have to raise the level of our game obviosusly.”
Thailand have shown that there is no short cut to success where the progress of the current side, is a culmination of two years of hardwork.
The current team also had a handful of players who led Thailand to a semi-final finish at the Asian Games last year in Incheon, South Korea.
“The team is maturing very well with several players still available for the next SEA Games,” added Choketawee.
“For the final, I don’t want the players to think further than how to beat Myanmar. That’s all.”
