PHNOM PENH (19 Oct 2010) – Cambodia national coach Lee Tae Hoon certainly did not mince his words and demanded more teamwork following his team’s drab draw against Metfone Cambodian League runners-up Preah Khan Reach at the National Olympic Stadium.
Immediately after the match, the South Korean summoned the squad and gave them a long debriefing. “Most of you played like individuals, and in a team game like football it doesn’t help if you are on your own,” Lee told his players. Several scoring chances were left wanted as Cambodia struggled with the lack of coordination against a side known for their fitness. “I could see some of you worked very hard but at the end of the day it meant nothing because you couldn’t combine well enough,” he said. “There is little time left for us (before the Suzuki Cup 2010 qualifiers in Laos) and we need to put our heads together and think about it.” The coach gave a full game to goalkeeper Ouk Mich, who by keeping a sheet clean perhaps justified the choice. Cambodia will leave for the Laotian capital of Vientiane tomorrow ahead of their first Suzuki Cup qualifying match against the hosts on Friday. They will also play East Timor and the Phillipines – with the top two teams gaining places in the main competition held in Vietnam and Indonesia in December. |
