BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (3 Aug 2013) –The National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) have appointed Dayem Ali as the chief coach and Mohammad Tunjang as the team manager of their Under-19 team for the AFF U19 Championship that will be held in Surabaya on 9-22 September.
Dayem is the former coach of the Brunei U23 team (at the SEA Games 2011) while Muhammad is the manager of Muara Vella FC.
“I was informed about the job by the NFABD at the end of June and I took it without giving a second thought,” said Muhammad.
“We have been focusing on technique and skill for these past few weeks with coach Dayem. He is a very good coach. He is taking one thing at a time and he is very thorough and passionate.
“Dayem and I will try to get a number of teams for friendlies and we hope to face a few of the best teams in the country.”
The Brunei U19 team has been hard at work at the Balapan Track and Field Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
“As we all know, we will be up against the region’s best so we need to be at our best to be able to compete with them,” he said.
“Currently we have 20 players training for (the AFF meet), which we will trim down to 18.”
In Surabaya, Brunei have been placed in Group B against hosts Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand.
Group A are Laos, Philippines, Australia, Timor Leste, Singapore and Cambodia.
