HO CHI MINH CITY (12 May 2014) – Little-known Toshiya Miura from Japan has been unveiled as the new coach of the Vietnam national team.
Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) president Le Hung Dung said at the official unveiling that while Miura is not a well-known figure, the VFF accepted him because he was recommended by the Japan FA (JFA).
“VFF did not choose Miura due to his CV. We trusted him, as he was introduced by the Japan Football Association (JFA). He was not well-known, but it was not a problem,” said Hung Dung.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Miura is confident that he can win over the Vietnamese players even though he does not know much about football in Vietnam.
But he said that Vietnam has the potential to develop where his immediate personal aim would be to lead the team for the AFF Suzuki Cup at the end of the year which they will be co-hosting alongside Singapore.
It is believed that Miura will receive some USD 12,000 as his monthly remuneration even though the VFF had not set any target for him following his signing of a two-year contract.
