YANGON (7 Feb 2010) – The Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) have decided to part company with national team head coach Drago Mamic after a series of poor results.
The 56-year-old Croatian (pix) was signed as head coach of Myanmar national team since October 2009. The decision to rescind their association came after the Myanmar national team suffered a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Thai Port FC in a friendly match in Bangkok. The Myanmar national team had lost the last three friendly matches – beaten 3-1 and 4-3 in the two games against Ulsan University Football team from South Korea and then being crushed 3-0 by Thai Royal Army FC prior to the loss to Thai Port FC. Last December, Myanmar had also crashed out of the preliminary round of the SEA games which was held in Laos. The decision to do away with Mamic was made following an MFF meeting on 4th February in Yangon. MFF have assigned Tin Myint Aung as the new head coach of the national team with the priority now being their participation in the AFC Challenge Cup which will begin on 16 February in Sri Lanka.
