JAKARTA (25 March 2009) – The FA of Indonesia (PSSI) are planning to organize a five-team championship in June – and they have included Mexico and Australia into the mix.
Following the cancellation of the friendly against New Zealand early next month, the PSSI have decided to host the five-team meet as part of their overall programme for the Indonesia national team in 2009. The tournament has been slated for 18-26 June and which will see the participation of the Indonesia national team, the Indonesia Under-23 squad, Iran, Mexico and Australia. The tournament will form part of the preparation for the friendly against Manchester United on 24 July 2009 at the Stadion Gelora Bung Karno. “Even though the game against Manchester United is only an exhibition match, still I want the players to play to their best,” said Benny Dolo, the head coach of the Indonesia national team. After the game against Manchester, the Indonesia national team will then prepare to take on China on 15 August 2009 in Jakarta. “The negotiation for the friendly against Holland is still on-going but it has passed the 70% stage,” added Yeyen Tumena, the Promotions Manager of PSSI. “According to the agent, Holland will bring their star players like Dirk Kuyt, Wesley Sneijder, Klas Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel for the trip east. The tentative date is 14 October 2009 – after their match against Australia.” |
