HANOI (17 October 2023) – Vietnam head coach Philippe Troussier said that the team’s friendly against South Korea ‘will be a good foundation for the team’s future.’
“I believe this game will be a good foundation for us to build the Vietnam national team of the future. Playing in matches like this helps players improve faster. We will face a difficult match and the result may not be as expected. But the most important thing for us is to create a generation of players for the future, with the new football philosophy,” said Troussier.
Vietnam will take on South Korea at the Suwon World Cup Stadium later this evening following earlier friendlies against China and Uzbekistan in Dalian, China.
“We have to focus on improving what we were not able to do in the last two friendlies against China and Uzbekistan. We are building a Vietnam team with a new philosophy, with many new players.
“The team may have to be defensive around 60-70% of the time but one of the goals (playing against South Korea) is to make the players play calmly and overcome pressure from opposing players.”
