PETALING JAYA (5 Feb 2016) – Malaysian Futsal head coach Marcelo Serpa has announced the 14 players who will carry their challenge for the AFC Futsal 2016 which will be held in Uzbekistan on 10-21 February.
These players were sifted from a list of 17 players who had undergone several friendly matches in Bangkok and also Ho Chi Minh City.
The three players left out of the squad are Mohd Afiq Abdul Rahman (Pahang) Mohd Iftitah Ahmad (Sabah) and Mohd Ridzwan Bakri (Sabah).
For the AFC Futsal 2016, the Malaysians have been placed in the same Group D as ASEAN neighbour Australia, Qatar and also defending champions Japan.
“These are the best 14 players that we have and in general, I am satisfied with the selection,” said Serpa. “They have shown a high-level of commitment throughout the weeks that we are together.
“I hope that they will continue with the pace in the last week leading up to the tournament, and also with the two friendly matches that we will play there (Uzbekistan U23 (6 February) and Iraq (7 February).
“Group D is very tough and difficult. The first match against Australia (11 February) is like a final match and we have to make sure that we win it. That will motivate the team further.”
