YANGON (9 May 2013) – Former stars of English side Manchester United have confirmed a friendly at the Thuwana Stadium in Yangon on 9 June.
The charity event which will feature notable players like Denis Irwin, Andy Cole and Lee Sharpe will take to the field against a Myanmar Selection side.
“Hopefully we can raise a lot of money for the charities,” Clayton Blackmore. “We’ve had our eyes opened looking at some of the young children who haven’t got families and HIV. I’ve got children myself and it hurt me a little bit watching the little ones all on their own, but hopefully everyone is going to come out and support all of the events and we are going to have a great time.”
The match is being hosted by Ayeyarwady Foundation, CEA Myanmar and Park Royal Hotel, with ticket proceeds and other donations going to monastic education, local hospitals and HIV rehabilitation efforts.
Tickets for the match will cost between MMK500 (USD 0.55) and MMK1000 (USD 1.10).
