PETALING JAYA (28 June 2019) – Brad Maloney has been appointed as the head coach for Malaysia Under-18 team for the AFF U18 Championship that will be held in Vietnam on 5-18 August.
Maloney replaced former head coach Bojan Hodak, who had led the Malaysians to the AFF title last year in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The Australian international will also oversee the Malaysian U19 squad’s qualifying campaign of the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship in Cambodia from 2-10 November 2019.
“Brad has been with us since 2014 and he is familiar with the Malaysian way of football which makes him the perfect candidate to take charge of the national U-19 side. We want to promote a close-knit and harmonious working relationship between head coaches of all age-groups and I know the appointment of Brad will reinforce our case on this,” said FAM Technical Director, Peter de Roo.
Other than leading the Malaysian U19 team, Maloney will still remain as the assistant head coach to Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s national U23 team.
The full complement of 12 teams from the AFF have confirmed their participation.
Group A are Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Timor Leste, Philippines and Brunei DS while Group B are Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Australia.
