JAKARTA (28 June 2012) – ASEAN champions Malaysia have been confirmed as the final team to take part in the Java Cup 2012 on 26-29 July in Jakarta. Other than hosts Indonesia, the other teams taking part are English Premier League side Everton and Turkish giant Galatasaray.
This was announced by Widjajanto, the chief executive officer of organizer PT Liga Prima Indonesia Sportindo at a press conference yesterday.
“It is really historic that we could bring two of the top clubs in Europe for the tournament here. I hope that the tournament will bring more than just football to Indonesia where hopefully it will also help in improving the infrastructure,” said Widjajanto.
Added Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, who was also at the press conference: “this tournament is important for Everton as we prepare for the new season. So we are looking at playing against Galatasaray, Malaysia and Indonesia.”
