KUALA LUMPUR (10 March, 2008) – Malaysia have earned a ticket to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship which will be played in Uzbekistan on 4-19 October, 2008.
They will join Asean neighbours Singapore and Indonesia in the final round. The Malaysians won the ticket to Uzbekistan after DPR Korea were found guilty by the AFC Disciplinary Committee for fielding an averaged player in the qualifiers that was held in Singapore last October. DPR Korea, who did not appeal against the decision, topped Group G while Australia came in second and Malaysia were third. The AFC Disciplinary Committee also decided that Saudi Arabia will join Malaysia in Uzbekistan ahead of Iraq. Iraq have been disqualified by the AFC Disciplinary Committee and subsequently lost their appeal for fielding an ineligible player in the qualifiers that was held in Saudi Arabia last November. Iraq had finished top of Group C ahead of India while Saudi Arabia was third.
