KUALA LUMPUR (25 Aug 2011) – The Malaysian national team have been invited to play Australia in a friendly slated for 7 October 2011 in Sydney.
Datuk Subahan Kamal, the vice president of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed the invitation which he termed as an honour against the runners-up of the Asian Cup 2011.
“We received the invitation from the Australian FA last week. And while we will bring this matter to be discussed at the next FAM Exco meeting, it is very likely that we will accept the invitation,” said Datuk Subahan.
While the Malaysians failed to advance beyond the second round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, the Australians are in the third round against ASEAN neighbour Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Oman in Group D.
In the FIFA World Rankings, the Malaysians are placed 146th as against Australia’s 22nd position in the world.
